[26.10.2007] WFDY: Solidarity Statement with Hungary Left Front Communist Youth Alliance
The Commission of Europe and North America of WFDY (CENA), extends its solidarity with members of the Left Front who are facing charges of “libel made in public”. The open threats toward the Hungarians Communist Workers Party (HCWP) and members of Left Front were placed among the wider plan of imperialism to intensify anti-communist propaganda, to distort history with lies, to place communists on the bench with memoranda, prohibitions and militant anti-communism.
The Hungarian government, through the public prosecutor, accused the leadership of the HCWP, among them members of the Left Front member organization of WFDY, for “libel made in public place” because they characterised a decision of the Budapest Court in 2005 as a political sentence. The case is going before the courts on Tuesday 6th November 2007 in Hungary. Further, we appreciate the gravity of the charges as if found guilty the cadres can be sentenced for a maximum of two years. This concerns an act which primarily turns against the freedom of speech and expression, democracy, human rights and fundamental freedoms of which the E.U. claims to be the defender.
This attempt falls within the wider policy of the Socialdemocrats’ and Christiandemocrats’ in the Hungary and is promoted by the broader policies of the E.U. as well, for the prohibition of the radical Left ideology which offers the utmost in the struggle against Fascism, against colonialism and social injustice, against human exploitation and inequality. The Hungarian Communist Workers Party also comprised a target of the Hungarian government through the historical of this decision in question only some time before the Parliamentary elections of 2006.
Freedom and democratic rights are fundamental rights that assist all the peoples and all youngsters in the world and exist in a society that dignifies the human being and that goes towards the social progress. Nowadays youngsters all over the world face themselves with one of the most violent and aggressive offenses concerning freedom of association and organization, freedom of thought expression and freedom of reunion and demonstration.
WFDY and its organizations acknowledge that all these attacks and campaigns that are primarily aimed to the communist to isolate them and to mislead other democratic and progressive sectors – potential targets of the same kind of attacks that should be taken not only as attacks against the anti-imperialists youth organizations but against all youngsters and democratic and anti-imperialist forces, perpetuated due to the awareness of the attraction of the emancipating and progressives ideals near the youth, by the dominant class.
CENA wishes to stress that similar phenomena of communist condemnation due to their ideology, penalization of organisations and their activities, prohibition and imprisonment of members or representatives of communist parties are also observed in other countries, mostly in Eastern Europe, such as in Bulgaria, Hungary, Baltic countries and other republics of the former Soviet Union. While the Left confronts fascist prosecutions, in several of these countries not only are fascist and neo-Nazi organisations not prohibited but they are allowed, if not encouraged, to act freely. Furthermore, similar proposals have been heard in the Council of Europe where they gain ground in specific political groups.
We denounce such moves and encourage all our member organizations to continue fighting for peace and more solidarity and against imperialism and all its values. We express our solidarity with the HCWP and the Left Frond Communist Alliance and call the youth and all the democratic, progressive people to condemn this act, as well as all anti-democratic and anti-communist measures taken by different seats in Europe, the USA and anywhere else.
Finally, we urge to our all member and friendly organizations to take necessary actions by organizing meetings, protests and issuing statement in support of and solidarity with the Left Front. Also we call all CENA members and all the other member organizations of WFDY to take initiatives of demonstrations outside the Hungarian embassies on the 30th of October.
